About the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG 1:24
The SLS was AMG's first car designed from scratch and its homage to the 300SL: a long bonnet, a cabin set far back, and gullwing doors hinged in the roof. The model is the coupe with the wide grille and the single central star, the side vents behind the front wheels and the pop-up rear spoiler modelled in its raised position.
The doors lift on roof hinges and stay up. The bonnet opens over the 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 with the AMG plaque on the cover; the boot lid opens too. Lights and the engine sample work from a button, and the pull-back motor is in the rear axle. Paint on this batch is silver, the colour the car is usually shown in.
It pairs with the 1954 300SL in the same scale, the original gullwing and the tribute, which is one of the better two-car shelves in the catalogue.
Living with a 1:24 scale model
At 1:24 the model is around 19 cm long, compact enough for a desk and big enough for the doors to open and the dashboard to be readable. This is the scale to buy if you want a few cars rather than one, and the pull-back motor and lights make it the safest choice for a young enthusiast.
