About the Bugatti Atlantic Concept 1:18
The original Atlantic of 1936 had a seam of rivets running down its spine because the body was made of a magnesium alloy that could not be welded, and it became the most valuable car in the world. Bugatti's modern Atlantic concept keeps the seam as a design line, and the model reproduces it as a raised ridge from windscreen to tail. The teardrop rear, the kidney-shaped side windows and the horseshoe grille are all here.
The doors open onto a two-seat cabin with a wraparound dashboard, and the front compartment lifts. Wheels are the concept's turbine-style design and the front pair steer. The paint is a deep metallic blue in the style of the two-tone Chirons, with the seam picked out in a lighter finish.
This is the odd one out on the Bugatti shelf, and the one people ask about. It suits a collector who already has the Chiron and the Bolide and wants the piece that explains where the shapes came from.
Living with a 1:18 scale model
At 1:18 this is a large model, roughly a ruler's length, and it is built as a display piece rather than a toy. Expect metal body panels with proper hinges, a carpeted or textured floor inside, and a finished engine bay under the bonnet.
