About the Mercedes-AMG GT R F1 Safety Car 2020 1:18 Model
For 2020 the safety car swapped its usual silver for red, in support of the WeRaceAsOne initiative, and this is that car: the AMG GT R with the rainbow stripe down its flanks, the FIA and F1 logos, and the light bar across the roof. It is the only safety car we stock and one of the few in this scale at any price.
This is a sealed-body resin model rather than a diecast, which is normal for limited liveries: the body is a single moulding with no opening parts, and in return the panel lines are finer and the shape is sharper than a metal casting with hinges would allow. Wheels roll. The light bar is a separate clear part with the strobe lenses modelled, and the decals are printed under the clear coat.
Buy it to sit beside the 2020 grid or beside Hamilton's W14 and W15 in 1:43 as the car that led them round. Handle it by the roof; the wing mirrors and the light bar are the fragile parts.
Living with a 1:18 scale model
At 1:18 this is a large model, roughly a ruler's length, and it is built as a display piece rather than a toy. Expect metal body panels with proper hinges, a carpeted or textured floor inside, and a finished engine bay under the bonnet. Give it about 30 cm of shelf width and lift it by the roof or chassis, not the bumpers.
